The city has announced that Monadnock Development (One John Street, Harlem's P.S. 186) has been chosen to build 208 units of affordable housing in a feng shui-oriented development in Flushing, Queens. The project, designed by Bernheimer Architecture, will be named One Flushing, and will feature solar panels, a rooftop farm, ground-floor retail, and community space for nonprofit groups Asian Americans for Equality and HANAC, who are also co-developing One Flushing along with Monadnock. 60 of the apartments will be set aside for seniors.
The project, replacing a municipal parking lot, could join other affordable housing coming to Flushing, if the Flushing Willets Corona Local Development Corporation manages to see its plan to fruition. That group wants to rehabilitate and rezone 60 acres of the Flushing waterfront to build affordable housing and commercial space.
