Manhattan Transfers digs into one of our old favorite real estate developments, 7 Essex Street, uncovering additional proof that people indeed will pay big money to live amidst grime on the deep Lower East Side. The latest to join the building's roster is French photographer Brigitte Lacombe, who shelled out just over $1 million for a loft in the building. Will the luxe trend spread to nearby Chinatown? Unlikely. Says one observer, "You can renovate the hell out of them?they?re still tiny apartments."
