Remember the leaking toxic sludge that's keeping the Gowanites from getting their Whole Foods Market pronto down at Third Avenue and Third Street? Well, according to Amy Langfield, the latest issue of BKLYN magazine goes with the more judicious term "petroleum-related substance," but offers up a harsher reality on the timetable: No construction until spring 2007 and no opening until at least the fall of 2008. Perhaps it's a bit too soon to be saying the Gowanus Canal area's all cleaned-up pretty. But hey, at least it's got Steve Buscemi.
