It's the City Council's turn to weigh in on the four-block rezoning proposed by Jack Parker Corp. for the area bounded by West, Watts and Washington streets (right) but opposed by Community Board 1 and various other northern Tribecans. It's not looking good for the proposal.
The fight, you may recall, is over how dense to make the residential development slated for that swath. The developer had been angling for a floor-to-area ratio of 10, but they've come down to 6.5. Not low enough, cry the opponents, who're thinking a FAR of 5 would be more their cup of tea. Meanwhile, a wider rezoning of the nabe is also on the boards, so any thumbs-down for Jack Parker won't be the end of the density fight.
