The future of the Civil War-era graving dock--a working ship repair facility--on the Red Hook waterfront has been looking pretty grim. Ikea has demolished the Todd Shipyards to build a big box store on Beard Street, and it is ready to fill the dock so it can use the space for parking. It's spurned alternative plans that would save the dock. Now, the Municipal Art Society--one of the groups lobbying to save it--has sued the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers "with a goal of forcing a legally-mandated review of historic resources at the Ikea site in Red Hook, Brooklyn." Given that everything else has been turned to rubble, we're guessing this specifically means the graving dock.
