Developer Seth Brown is either the smartest or stupidest man alive. His Aspen Equities will soon build a new "green, modernist" eight-unit apartment building on the edge of Prospect Heights at 580 Sterling Place, and he's opening up the design process to you. Yes, you. The first open-source apartment building, as he's calling it, is a response to the design you see at top left, just down the block on Sterling and described by Brown as "what may be the ugliest building in Brooklyn." So now what? Well, crazy hippie man has set up a website where he is welcoming anyone to send in designs and comment. When it's all said and done, boom, a user-created Brooklyn apartment building. Like we said, developer Seth Brown is either the smartest or stupidest man alive. The starting point is the sketch above. Folks, buckle your safety belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride. Our only question about this bit of inspired marketing genius: How did Michael Shvo not think of it first?
