We knew the Washington Square Park renovation controversy had a few dry heaves left in it, construction be damned! The latest (and last?) attempt to prevent the realignment of the park's treasured fountain has to do with an agreement in 2005 that stated if the cost of moving the fountain was more than restoring it, then the move would be called off. The Metro reports that residents paid for an independent study, and the results say the city would save over $500,000 by simply restoring the fountain. City officials never got their own cost analysis, so they can't really angrily shake their own set of papers in the air while yelling. Will this snowball into more delays, or will digging proceed as planned? Only the Shadow knows.
