THE BOWERY?An action-packed news day on the Bowery continues with word that old-timey tenants of the West Village's SRO Jane Hotel (f/k/a Hotel Riverview) and the Jane Street Association are following up last night's protest at the Waverly Inn with a rally tonight outside the Bowery Hotel at 6:30 p.m. The tenants are targeting the other establishments run by Jane bosses Eric Goode and Sean MacPherson because of "rat-infested conditions, often with no heat or hot water" at the Jane. We'll assume the hotel's more recent visitors are getting better treatment, even if they're only paying $99 per night. Please note that the mutant rat seen in the photo above is also a vampire rat, and therefor has no reflection. [CurbedWire Inbox]
CENTRAL VILLAGE?If you haven't been following the New School student uprising via the blog or Gawker coverage, good lord, how we envy you. The rebellious youth are holed up at 65 Fifth Avenue, slated to be razed for that controversial new Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed building, which the students are not very happy about: "More than 100 of us have taken over a student building, including our only library, which the administration has marked for demolition without creating any equivalent new space on campus."
