Last week a group of artists installed what they call the De-Fence Project?wood cutouts meant to "re-plant nature in the urban facade"?onto the scaffold that has surrounded Dumbo's decrepit Empire Stores warehouse for the past two years. Yesterday, workers from the state's Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (we assume Amy Poehler was not among them) began dismantling the piece. Why not let people beautify an eyesore? Simple, the Brooklyn Paper reports: The artists didn't ask permission. Didn't their mothers ever teach them anything?
