The late-breaking addition to Mexican starchitect Enrique Norten's 580 Carroll Street project?dubbed "Garfield Sparta" for a reason we choose not to explore lest we turn out to be wrong about this amazing nickname?has been rejected by a community board subcommittee. The 17-unit project's developer wants to add three townhouses (which would cut into the building's signature front yard) and needs a zoning variance, but the CB6 land-use folks weren't into it. Norten may modify the townhouses' sleek design, but the vote of the committee and the full board is only advisory. The Board of Standards and Appeals will have the final say. [BK Paper; previously]
