The closely-watched Case-Shiller index, which tracks prices on existing home sales (not new development or condos/co-ops) in 20 major U.S. markets, posted a modest gain in October, but not enough to calm fears of a housing market double dip. The index declined 7.3% year-over-year overall, and for the 19th straight month no area posted a year-over-year price gain. The New York metro area was flat from September and down 7.7& over 2008.
