The angry citizens of Soho won't have the Grand Street Hotel to kick around anymore. That's because when the glassy hotel opens on the former site of the Moondance Diner sometime this summer, it'll be called The James New York. News of the official naming comes via the NYT's In Transit blog, which informs us the hotel is part of a mini-chain of boutique hotels that includes the James Chicago. Other fun details:
A third-floor lobby, reached via glass elevator, will provide views over LentSpace, a public art park across the street. There will also be a second-floor garden and rooftop pool lined with cabanas and a lounge. A chef-driven restaurant is also planned, but no word yet on which celebrity chef. Introductory room rates from $299.
The hotel will have to compete with fellow neighborhood rookies the Mondrian, Trump Soho and the Crosby Street Hotel, but only Big Jim has the Fortress of Plazatude to really rile up the locals.
