The glamification of Bleecker Street's retail has made Village landlords greedy, the Wall Street Journal reports, and they're letting storefronts sit empty instead of reducing rent demands. "Shuttered shops and restaurants with blacked-out windows, boarded-up doors and walls marred by graffiti," is how the paper describes Hudson Street. Adds one resident, "You can't get a pair of shoes repaired around here anymore." How many ankles must be twisted before there is justice? [WSJ]
