As of today, Brooklyn will have two federally shamed toxic waterways (and LIC one). Huzzah! The Brooklyn Paper reports that the EPA is expected to make Newtown Creek a Superfund site today, triggering a fed-controlled cleanup that could last 10 years. Unlike with the Gowanus Canal, Mayor Bloomberg and other influential parties didn't oppose Newtown's Superfund status because not even luxury condo builders want a piece of that action.
