What is it with the people of Williamsburg and their troubling habit of saying dumb things to New York Times reporters? Who knows, but it sure makes for entertaining blog fodder! Williamsburg's Chain Store Lady has now been one-upped by a gent quoted in the NYT's latest phony trend piece, this one about people hiring bartenders to work their apartment parties. From his downstairs neighbor's 400-square-foot studio in a "new warehouse conversion along the Brooklyn waterfront," (ahem) Dustin Terry had this incredible exchange:
"In my opinion, if you don't have a bartender at your party, you're a loser,” said Dustin Terry, who lives a floor below Ms. Argiro and said his job was to get models and Saudi royalty into hot clubs. "The bartender brings class and sophistication." "If you can't afford to hire a bartender," he added, "you shouldn't be having a party."
Amen, brother! After all, Williamsburg is known for attracting the sophisticated moneyed class. But our Curbed South Williamsburg correspondent isn't so amused. His curt reaction: "Sounds like a Northsider." Hmm, is Broadway the Mason-Dixon in a pending Williamsburg class war? Wouldn't that be fun.
