The New School's SOM-designed Zig-Zag building is topping out today, with workers placing the highest piece of concrete superstructure at 65 Fifth Avenue while school officials and construction execs pat each other on the back for a job well done so far. A tipster across the street reported that trees were being hoisted up to an area where New School President David Van Zandt was set to speak and hardhats were taking a load off in folding chairs on a floor a few above street level, while others broke for lunch. When asked how the building was proceeding thus far, one hardhat across the street from the site responded "We're fast." Have any more pics of progress at 65 Fifth Avenue? Send them to the tip line.
