Grace Church on Broadway and East 10th Street is undergoing an extensive renovation that involves the removal and restoration of its stained glass windows, replacing a good deal of its marble tracery with limestone, reinforcing the foundation, and installing a modern climate control system. These are no small jobs on a building more than 150 years old. Grace Church's Te Deum window is 35 feet tall, 17 feet wide, and contains anywhere from six- to ten thousand pieces of stained glass. It's interesting to get a glimpse at the restoration process in a series of videos that the church is putting on YouTube, in which the church's rector explains different elements of the work being done.
Below is a video showing why limestone is preferable to marble in the tracery of Grace Church's Ta Deum window.
