A desolate block on Dyer Avenue near the Lincoln Tunnel is one step closer to being transformed into a 7,200-square-foot pocket park. DNAinfo reports that Community Board 4 and local residents praised the plan at a meeting last night. The proposal is still in its early stages, but it would turn three Port Authority-owned lanes between 34th and 35th Streets into a stretch of green space.
The Port Authority is already planning to remove one lane of traffic from the location, so the park would not take any away, but a median and traffic light would also have to be removed. This would cost around $15,000 to $20,000, and the community board wants the park planners to come up with a full budget since "the Port Authority has no money for this." So while CB4 is recommending the plan to the PA, there's still a lot more that needs to be done before we're chilling under a tree beside the Lincoln Tunnel.
