A trio of data visualization experts has taken a bunch of Citi Bike data75,000 total ridesand created a soothing map of the different trips taken over a two-day period this past September. The daily rhythm of Citi Bikes' movement around the city has been mapped already, and it's pretty mesmerizing. The Times notes that it's fun to watch for patterns: commuters taking bikes from hubs like Grand Central and Penn stations to their offices; tourists crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. The majority of users are annual members rather than daily or short-term riders, which the map shows, reinforcing the conclusion that part of the bike-share system's financial strain comes from the relatively low cost paid by these folks for the service.
