Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer plans to introduce what will no doubt be a controversial piece of legislation. Spurred by Vornado's plans to demolish the Rizzoli bookstore on 57th Street, Brewer wants a law that would require the Landmarks Preservation Commission to consider any building more than 50 years old for protection if a developer files plans to raze it. It would also codify a provision that stops developers from obtaining demo permits if the building is under LPC review. Your move, REBNY. [Crain's; previously]
