The DOT is planning to introduce 5.4 miles of bike lanes to a big stretch of Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights by this summer. Planned to start around West 162nd Street and extend up to Ft. George Avenue (click diagram for big), the proposed lanes are either shared with cars or exclusive to bicycles. Streetsblog reports that this is Upper Manhattan's first bike lane; DNAinfo has more details, including community reaction. Community Board 12 will vote on the lanes later this month.
