If even New York City's saddest penthouse could find a buyer, it should come as no surprise that the top floor of Lincoln Square's 150 Columbus Avenue can, too. It's languished on the market since January of last year, despite NFL player-turned-morning show host Michael Strahan's interest in the place. But then the owner tapped Elliman band of brothers Tal and Oren Alexander, who re-listed the 5BR/6.5BA duplex with a curving staircase and a lush, jaw-dropping terrace for $16.5 million on January 30. It entered contract at $16 million eight days later, the Post reports, to a Middle Eastern purchaser who "already owns in the building."
The penthouse's initial ask probably had a little something to do with how long it took to sell: a whopping $29 million when it first came to market last January. Here's the string of PriceChops: reduced to $24.9M in May of 2013, to $20M in October, and finally to $16.5 million in January 2014, before the broker switch. From $29M to $16Mthat's a final discount of 44.8 percent. Another 5.2 percent and it would have entered the PriceChopper Hall of Fame but, alas. Maybe next time.
