A Morningside Heights rental building is preparing to reopen following a nearly two-year renovation. 1080 Amsterdam, just south of Columbia University, is being developed by Stonehenge Partners and SL Green, who secured a $13 million, 99-year lease on the property in late 2012. Steven Kratchman Architects handled the revamping of the 73-year-old, 20-story structure, which included upgrades to common corridors and windows, and improved heating, electrical, and elevator systems, BBH reports. The building formerly served as staff housing for nearby St. Luke's Hospital Center.
Studios in the 96-unit building start at $2,700, one-bedrooms at $3,600, and two-bedrooms at $5,895. All units in the building are available to rent. The apartments feature sunken living rooms, hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, and other high-end finishes. Andres Escobar designed the interiors. Some units will have private outdoor space. Building amenities include a fitness center, resident lounge, bike storage, in-building laundry and a 24-hour attended lobby.
