How do new condo developments get those pictures of the views from their penthouses before the penthouses are built? Much like the Wizard of Oz, they use a large balloon. (And unlike the Wizard of Oz, they are very precise about where they send it.) There are five balloons that have been created to do the job by Virginia-based company Digital Design and Imaging Service, and they have, according to the company's president, "taken photos from every new skyscraper in the city." The highest one of the balloons has gone so far is 1,376 feet to get a shot from the One WTC observation deck. [NYT]
