Plans to demolish the Rizzoli Bookstore on West 57th Street and an adjacent building were approved yesterday by the Department of Buildings. Preservationists, including borough president Gale Brewer, made a considerable effort to get the Landmarks Preservation Commission to step in and save the iconic store, but to no avail.
