We now have an idea what it will look like if a Bed-Stuy church is converted into apartments. Key word: if. The church at 261 Skillman Street (the property extends to Bedford Avenue) was sold in 2008 and demolition work was going on back in 2012. But now the entire project seems to be up the air. Brownstoner spotted the above schematic for what the church facade side of the building would look like after the conversion (not very much like a church). However, seen in the same shot is a stop work order. Indeed, the building permit was revoked at the beginning of June. It wasn't clear when, or if, work would resume.
The original plans called for a six-story, 41-unit (the latest building application lists 36 units) apartment building designed by Karl Fischer, complete underground parking. There was also supposed to be 41,325 square feet of community and commercial space.
