Hale House, whose programs have aided the homeless and educated underserved children for almost half a century, became the latest in a string of nonprofits to put its Manhattan headquarters on the market back in December, listing the Harlem townhouse that it has occupied since the '60s for $2.7 million. After one pricechop, the house was purchased in June by Dabar Development (a rare female-led development company) for $2.2 million. The plan — surprise! — is to turn it into apartments.
The 1910 five-story (plus cellar) brownstone will be converted into only four units, a ground-level duplex and three full-floor pads, indicating that they will likely be condos. Building permits list SLM Architecture PC as the architect. Renderings, an expected completion date, and other pertinent details have yet to be released, but are probably coming soon.
