Built in the late 19th century and named Temple Court, the building that still stands at 5 Beekman Street is gearing up for its umpteenth rebirth as a trendy hotel with condos. Originally constructed as an office building where early tenants included the National Riffle Association, the ornate structure has all the decorative flair of the nearby and slightly later Woolworth Building. New York Magazine was lucky enough to tour the property, where "anything you see that's beautiful and decorative isn't just decorative; it actually has a purpose." According to NYM, the site's remained so relatively intactit is about 130 years old, after allthanks to a change in fire code which lead to the walling-off of its impressive atrium. Get a look at some of the building's original details above.
