Developer Harry Macklowe's (sometimes problematic) conversion of 737 Park Avenue is nearing completion after more than two years of work, but the penthousein the true sense of the word, as it takes up the entire top floorstill has a ways to go. It hit the market about a month ago, but it's being shopped around as a "white box," so whichever billionaire plunks down the $39.5 million that it's asking can customize the sprawling home precisely to his liking. But even as a blank canvas, the 5,772-square-foot home, which comes with an additional 6,028 square feet of outside space, is impressive. Handel Architects, the firm that designed the conversion, created a proposed layout for the space, and constructed a 34-foot-long rooftop addition that acts as a skylight and entrance to the massive rooftop deck. The listing provides renderings of what the space could be, but a recent tour let us see what it's like right now.
As for the rest of the units, more than half have sold, and closings and move-ins should start soon. StreetEasy shows the cheapest unit to be a $3.55 million one-bedroom.
