According to The Wall Street Journal, Gracie Mansion will soon undergo a massive restoration job, following the discovery of asbestos. The roof of the mansion has been leaking for years, and Department of Buildings inspectors only discovered asbestos last month while trying to figure out a way to effectively fix the roof. In 2012, the Bloomberg administration estimated that repairs would cost around $2.1 million, but the job was never completed. Now, the plan is to completely replace the roof with an asphalt shingle to protect it from leaks. The job will probably last until October and cost around $3.4 million. [WSJ; previously]
