After years and years of labyrinthine legal snafus, the battle over Long Island College Hospital is still not over. Supporters of LICH held a rally outside the state Appellate courthouse in Brooklyn Heights last week, as part of a last-ditch effort to save the embattled hospital before its scheduled shuttering on April 30. The protest was intended to support the appeal of Concerned Physicians of LICH, a neighborhood group that is against SUNY's decision to award the hospital's redevelopment rights to Fortis Property Group. "This is just evil," doctor Jon Berall told Brooklyn Paper at the rally. "People are going to die so that luxury condos can be built." [Brooklyn Eagle, Brooklyn Paper; previously]
