The sole reason that Robert Durst, accused murderer and one-time heir to the Durst real estate dynasty, has not been locked up is because he has buckets and buckets of money, which he has used to hire an all-star legal teama team that was able to convince a jury that even though this man admitted to killing and chopping up his neighbor, he is not, in fact, a murderer. What would Durst do without his millions? He may soon have to find out. The Post reports that Robert's brother Douglaswho really hates Robert and is completely terrified of himmay freeze $74 million of Robert's $100 million fortune, which he received in a 2006 settlement that resulted in Robert cutting all ties with the Durst Organization.
The money-freezing threat comes from a lawsuit that Douglas settled with Andrew Jarecki, the director of the Jinx, the HBO documentary that told the story of Robert's life (and ended with him seemingly confessing to three murders). According to the Post, since Douglas was able to confirm that Robert leaked information about the Durst family to Jarecki for the film, he may now exact revenge by stopping Robert's cash flow. If it happens, Robert would likely need to sell off some real estate (he owns quite a lot through his wife's development firm) to continue to pay for his attorneys.
