Fashion Institute of Technology's 10-year Master Planreported wa-a-y back in 2009got a huge boost today: Mayor De Blasio announced a $74 million pledge to help build a long-awaited 100,000-square-foot academic building on 28th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues (h/t Racked). The building by SHoP Architects will rise ten stories and include a fifth-floor quad that connects to FIT's iconic C Building (also known as the Martin Feldman Center). Although renderings of the structutre have been sparsely seen since the school announced its Master Plan in 2009, by the looks of it not a whole lot has changed.
The building's facade is intended to emulate the stitching and folding of fabric. It also pretty much looks like the facades of the New School building and the Centre Pompidou.
