Following up on a contentious urban planning item from a few weeks back, Mayor Bloomberg yesterday announced the city's acceptance of $5 million private donation to help fund a $14 million reconstruction at Union Square Park. Changes afoot include a playground upgrade, a refurb of the Farmer's Market area, and?the sticky part?a year-round restaurant in the empty pavilion at the park's north end.
Why sticky? Some folks aren't happy to see public space used for private gain. Reports the Daily News, "One woman was hauled away by cops yesterday after shouting 'Parks for people!' near the mayor."
