Yesterday, the city announced that it has hired British überarchitect Richard Rogers (designer of Paris' Pompidou Center and London's Millennium Dome) and Manhattan-based hotshots SHoP/Sharples Holden Pasquarelli to create a master plan for redeveloping the East River waterfront. The goal is to "finally connect" neighborhoods from Wall Street to the Lower East Side "to the East Village Waterfront"?in other words, remove the rusting tin drums and maybe plant some grass. Planning will be completed by "2005"?in other words, sometime this century.
