Here's an, um, interesting way to build buzz for a new downtown restaurant: host a dinner at The Dakota on the Upper West Side. The Corner Table reports that the team behind Cru, which is taking over the old Washington Park space at 24 Fifth Ave. (@ 9th St.) in early July, did exactly that at a "soft launch to end all soft launches." Apparently, they even rolled out Lower Fifth Ave. resident Jay McInerney, who's "particularly looking forward to Cru's real opening, as it's just across the street from his apartment."
