Curbed spies whisper that newcomer 5 Ninth [212-929-9460] will open its bar this weekend in its posh 1840s Meatpacking District brownstone, just steps from Pastis. The restaurant, one of the spring's most hyped openings?thanks to a team including chef Zak Pelaccio (formerly of Williamsburg's temporarily closed Chickenbone Cafe), Joel Michel (a former manager of Pastis), and Vincent Seufert (former part-owner of Rhone)?is still recovering from a mid-April fire that delayed the scheduled May 1 opening. (The first-floor exterior still sports a ring of white plywood, as seen at right in above photo.) Dinner officially will be served starting Wednesday, May 19.
