Last week, we noted the closing of West Village landmark bakery A. Zito & Sons, a Bleecker Street institution for the better part of four score years. What we did not know?until now?is the reason behind the closing. Says owner Anthony, "The Atkins Diet hurt us a lot. I thought it was just me, but I was just reading that Interstate Bakery ? the company that produces Wonder Bread ? was skipping its quarterly dividend for the first time in 40 years. And Krispy Kreme is off too."
