The Met-otel

This week's New York cover story on the war underway on the 900s and 1000s blocks of Fifth Avenue to halt the expansion plans of the Met is largely incomprehensible, even by the normal standards of Upper East Side social warfare. The only person we understand is former Met president Thomas Hoving, who says of his efforts to modernize the museum back in the 1960's and 1970's, "We wanted to expand further. We were thinking of building a luxury hotel on top of the museum."
