What's Cooking on Lower Fifth Ave

After dining at Bond Street, blogger GothamGal checks out Cru [24 Fifth Avenue @ 9th St], the new restaurant in Jonathan Waxman's Washington Park space that promoted itself in May with dinner at the Dakota:

We then walked up 5th and saw that Cru just opened [ed note?soft opening; not open to public until August per Cru PR] on 9th and 5th in the old Washington Park Restaurant space. One of the owners was there so we walked in and talked. There will be a large bar type area in the front with seating and food ? like a Grammercy Park which he had worked at ? and locals can stop in anytime to eat. The food will be expensive in the back room ? $20-30 for entrees and appetizers. I hope to get in there soon for dins. Right now it is not open to the public.
Across the street at Mario Batali's Otto, blogger VittlesVamp reports: "Otto has just expanded its menu to include a range of pastas, each with a $9 pricetag. Fab, ain't it? Mind you, the menu doesn't include ritzy, Babbo-worthy pastas like Mario's Spaghetti with Black Truffles. But, how can you argue with a plate of homey Spaghetti Carbonara with the classic combo of egg, cream, parmesan and pancetta? For under $10?"
