Also on the restaurant front, the weekend brought news that West 52nd Street restaurant JUdson Grill, it of the overactive capitalization, has closed to make room for another celebrity chef outpost (in this case, a new Bobby Flay Latin brasserie called Plancha).
In Tribeca, far more troubling news. On the heels of the demolition of El Teddy's comes word that the Burrito Bar is closing this month. Like El Teddy's fallen crown, the future is not bright for the decor, such as the flying VW minibus over the entrance. Reports the Tribeca Trib:
The colorful, sculptural sign cannot be preserved, the owner said, even if someone wanted it. "I'm saddened by that," said Yerman, seated at one of his restaurant's back-room tables, this one adorned with a large likeness of Led Zeppelin. "It's made out of Styrofoam, and once you start hacking away at it it breaks up into a thousand pieces."
A moment of silence, please.
