East River Redevelopment Update: Touch the Pretty Water

Tantalizing details continue to leak out about the East River waterfront redevelopment. Following word of the FDR Drive burial comes this stunning image (right) of the proposed "Brooklyn Bridge Beach" in downtown Manhattan that gives the current iteration a run for its money. Says landscape architect Ken Smith, who's working with Richard Rogers and SHoP on the project, "There's almost no place in New York City where you can get out to the water and actually touch it." Uh, Ken, there may be, you know, a reason for that.
