Existence of Non-Existent Symbolic Flourish Threatened

David Childs is back on the warpath, baby! The spire designed by Daniel Libeskind to sit atop the Freedom Tower at the World Trade Center site has been the only recognizable part of Danny's design to have made it through to the tower's current incarnation (and perhaps the only part of the design not to have come via Yale). But now, David Dunlap reports, the spire may not make the cut, due to budget and structural concerns ("How would an eccentrically located spire behave in high winds?"). Said Libeskind, "Awwww, crap."
