Coveting Your (Absent) Neighbor's House in Queens

The suburbs do not have a lock on creepy, suspended-animation houses apparently, as we learn from today's Times piece about an empty Twilight Zone candidate out on Utopia Parkway in Fresh Meadows, Queens. But here in the city where land is at a premium, people don't let you leave your plot fallow like that. The vultures begin to swarm:

Neighbors complain that house hunters, real estate agents and developers are continually knocking - first on the old house's door, then on theirs - to ask about the property.
According to city records, the house is valued at $590,000, more than double what it was in 2002.
