Times metro columnist Clyde Haberman raised an interesting note about downtown life yesterday: Ticker tape parades have been absent from the Canyon of Heroes (the lowest blocks of Broadway) since before 9/11 - and thus since Mayor Bloomberg took office. While we await the mayor's first decree, there are the sidewalk plaques (like the one at right) created by the Alliance for Downtown New York to commemorate those parades of the past. Of course, the writer also points out that the tape itself from old stock tickers is pretty hard to come by these days. And tossing Bloomberg terminals and their ilk out the windows of the Financial District just doesn't seem to have the same ring to it.
