Random Gates Nostalgia, Random River Hype

Smithson's Floating Island has floated away, and with it comes a wacky public art void. Nostalgia for The Gates runs rampant: some dude rips off two random photos of them from The Carlyle Hotel, for instance, and this is considered news. To ease the pain, peruse an unofficial blog for Christo's next great undertaking: Over the River, the wrapping of the Arkansas River in Colorado. As one might expect, local residents are ecstatic. "Our beautiful skies do not need to be blocked or highlighted by a piece of cloth," says one. "It's going to upset all those animals. Gonna confuse them.
