Squabbles over Seminary Plans in Chelsea

Holy high-rise, Batman! Hit the Preservation Mobile - let's check out Chelsea, the latest hot spot for neighborhood characters. Ninth Avenue between 20th and 21st, to be exact, where the Episcopal Church's General Theological Seminary has plans for a 17-story mixed-use building, with offices, day-care facilities, and a bookstore near street level, topped off by 80 or so luxury co-ops. Why? For the GTS to raise much-needed coinage, of course. Cue the hymns of protest.

But the opposition this time around seems more focused on the nabe's general height than on the timeless sanctity of the existing four-story "modernist structure," circa 1959. Moved? Bring your book of common complaints to the Community Board 4 meeting a week from tonight.
