Up on the Roof, There's Grass

Love 'em for all that pretty green. Love 'em for the way they suck up the CO2. No matter how you love 'em, green roofs are hot. The Villager picks up on the trend, noting that while NYC has been slow to catch on (one greenie guessed that there are 50 green roofs in New York right now, compared to Chicago where there may be as many as 2 million square feet of green roofs already built or in-progress), several new patches are spouting up. In the Lower East Side, for instance, ABC No Rio arts center on Rivington is topping off with some greenery, and the Lower East Side Girls Club is installing a couple of grassy patches, " where they’ll grow herbs for their cafe." Ha. We had no idea that was legal. Must be a roof thing.
