Whitney Expansion Foes Make Biannual Appearance

Thought the squabbles over architect Renzo Piano's scaled-back tower expansion at the Whitney Museum had faded away like last month's flimsy art trend? Nah, they've just been holding out for the next public meeting. As for the zoning-variance agenda at hand? We don't need no stinkin' agendas! The complaints were not restricted to such matters at last week's meeting on the Upper East Side, which ended in a stalemate of sorts. And by Upper East Side, we also mean "Montclair, N.J., and Scotland," according to a neighborhood petition. Because that 178-foot tower is going to cast such shadows that these people are going to feel it all the way to their second homes.
