Yesterday, we reported on the plot of land at Bowery/East 5th that's just gone under the knife. What's going up on the site? A Curbed correspondent reports:
Building Department records indicate a recently issued Work Permit to construct a 6 story and penthouse building at the corner of East 5th St and the Bowery/Third Avenue, street address of 25 Cooper Square. Retail and one parking space is proposed at the first floor, offices on the second, one apartment at each the 3rd to 5th, and a duplex at the 6th and penthouse."East Village penthouse"?oxymoron no more! See, for further proof, the development at 525 East 11th Street pictured here. Notes the Elliman website, "Penthouse Unique [sic] in the East Village!... Two grand penthouses with spacious setbacks and private roof terraces." And a black-clad hipster several stories up contemplating suicide. It's the best of the old, with the luxury comforts of the new!
